Maria recently found the photographs below among her mother's photo albums, and said they were taken in Maria's back yard in Whittier. Here is how she describes that moment: "It is 1967, and in the full length photo we are barefoot; I am dancing, and Dona is posing and trying not to laugh. We were giving each other trouble. In the other photo we were standing still. Doesn't Dona look amazing?
This photo was taken at a luncheon October 14, 2021 in Santa Barbara. Friends and family gathered to remember Donalee and celebrate her life, and the many ways she touched us all with her kindness and creativity.
"Dona sent me these paintings after I underwent cancer surgery in 2001. Since then, they have been displayed on the wall of my guest room, where I retreat for moments of serenity. I will always miss you, dear friend." - Allene Symons
